Look Good On The Go – Tousled Sends Hair Stylists to You

Got a few photo-worthy events coming up? Local mom tries this time-saver.

My teen graduates from eighth grade soon — just after her school trip to our nation’s capital and amid our family’s schedule bursting with spring activities: running practice, sewing club, family hikes, birthday celebrations and babysitting jobs.

My teen’s hair was a testament to this busy life. Its ends were split. Its volume too heavy for a ponytail. How, then, to make sure she looks picture-perfect for those upcoming graduation photos? Bring the hair stylist to you.

I decided to use Tousled, a mobile hair salon based in Seattle. I requested a haircut for an early weekend afternoon and at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, stylist Jessica Dahl showed up at our front door.

Despite the fact that miracles cost a little extra than our normal stylist ($82 total), I’ll be the first to admit that Dahl was a good fit for my teen. She breezed into our dining room and plugged in a flat iron. Her good cheer was contagious enough to engage my typically shy teen in conversation. For once, I didn’t need to offer up answers for my offspring; she told Dahl what she wanted for her cut and that she played a hyena in her middle school play.

The hair looked divine, too. Dahl transformed seven months of neglect into perfection, which doesn’t often happen for teen girl’s hair-do.

Goodness, I sound like Tousled is paying me for marketing. But really, what’s not to love about a stylist coming to you? Tousled offers haircuts, blowouts, styling, up-dos, manicures, pedicures, henna, makeup, airbrush makeup, makeup lessons, facials and dead-sea polishes. This year-old company caters to families, professionals and seniors with mobility issues with coverage in Seattle, Bellevue and some north and south, too.

While Dahl styled away in our dining room, she told me about The Beyond Project, which provides mobile services like haircuts, makeup and yoga to underserved neighborhoods. Tousled co-founder Melissa Albert explains her company’s work with the project.

“Our relationship with The Beyond Project is always evolving but we are committed to supporting them,” she says. Among other efforts, Tousled raises donations, provides technology and promotes the project among its clientele.

The company is also focused on fairness and equity when it comes to its own employees. “We offer a no-obligation platform where stylists can accept jobs only when it works on their schedule,” says Albert. “They earn a much bigger percentage than if they were working in a salon.”

While I’ll admit calling for a Tousled stylist is a bit of a splurge, I admire the company. Plus, my teen’s hair look’s fantastic. I wouldn’t be surprised if she offers up her babysitting funds to pay for another haircut with Dahl.
